Our Story
Without your health, you have nothing. The founder of Hotel Yoga and Fitness, Alana Hurov, learned that lesson first hand when she suffered a concussion in 2009. The long time Celebrity TV producer was closing the blinds in her downtown Toronto condo when she was suddenly hit in the face with a valance (window covering). It crashed down on her, broke her nose and left her unable to work for 6 months.
Alana gained weight, became isolated, suffered from anxiety attacks and daily migraines. After many months, she finally had the courage and strength to do a yoga class again with one of her favourite teachers, Danny Paradise (Sting's Yoga teacher). The class was challenging. She struggled with dizzy spells and distorted vision, but managed to push through to the end. She ended up in tears on the mat, finally accepting that her mind and body had to re-build.
Alana returned to work as a TV producer , the newsroom that she once thrived in now left her feeling unfulfilled. This motivated her to look for other opportunities that would bring her more satisfaction.
As a journalist and a born entrepreneur, Alana sees the opportunity in every situation. She was having dinner with friends who frequently travel for work; they were complaining of lack of sleep, high blood pressure and even cancer scares. She left the dinner inspired to find out what health services were available to travelers and executives. She recognized a major opportunity and a need to change the landscape of the travel industry and the corporate world. Hotel Yoga and Fitness Inc. was born. Three years later, the company is now thriving. It is partnered with The Shangri-La Hotel Toronto, Vintage Hotels in Niagara on the Lake and The Ontario College of Teachers. HY Inc. produced it's first "Yoga for Men" DVD with World Series winner Joe Carter and former WWE star Trish Stratus. It was released in November 2012.. Alana is currently working with other top athletes to produce top selling fitness DVD's.
